Panorama has a tradition of graduates joining the armed forces during high school, right out of high school, and after trying college or full-time work. We welcome military recruiters in our building throughout the school year so students can feel comfortable asking soldiers questions. Typically, soldiers set up table displays by the hot lunch line, but may also present during a relevant course.
Reasons students have described joining a branch of our military -

Adventure involved in the training and travel of a soldier
Job training provided as part of the soldiers service - making our veterans valuable employee applicants if they choose to leave the military

Soldier Retirement benefits include 40 percent of salary after 20 years service and 60 percent of salary after 30 years service.
Each branch has enlisted soldiers, officers, and reserves or guard programs.
Enlisted soldiers make up most of our military. Enlisted personnel must have high school diploma. The highest rank possible for an enlisted soldier is Master Sergeant.

Officer positions have higher skill requirements, top rank of General, must have earned a 4 yr college degree.
All states have college partnerships with military branches officer training programs, called ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps).
For example, Iowa State University ROTC has Army, Navy, & Air Force programs.
ROTC Students may select any major, but are expected to include ROTC courses, especially if they are ROTC Scholarship recipients.
While any student can take ROTC courses as electives, ROTC also offers 2, 3, 4 year college scholarships covering cost of college that have requirements for those on scholarship.
Army ROTC Scholarships - 2.5 HS GPA, 19 ACT, deadlines begin in October of Gr.12
Air Force ROTC Scholarships - 3.0 HS GPA, 26 ACT, submit application between June 1 & December 1 of Gr.12

Reserves, Guard, & Merchant Marine units are spread across the country in an effort to let people serve their country as soldiers while also having another career.

Soldiers, or Service Men and Women, can retire after 20 years and receive forty percent of their ending salary, or retire after 30 years and receive 60 percent of their ending salary.
